We vehemently condemn the police firing on the protesting students and youths in Ladakh which resulted in the killing of four youths and injuring almost hundred students and youths. The recent unrest in Ladakh has its root in the dismantling of Article 370 by The BJP led central government in 2019 which overnight removed the special status to Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh.
The people of Ladakh being denied minimum legislative rights along with the continued oppression on them by the central government, ruthless exploitation by the big business houses, spiralling unemployment and pervasive corruption generated deep grievances among the people which led to this violent outburst.
We denounce this autocratic step of the BJP Government in attempting to silence the protest of the deprived people of Ladakh by shooting on the protesters, killing and injuring so many young people. We urge on the central government to immediately initiate dialogue with the protesters. We also demand that the central government provide adequate compensation to the bereaved families and stringently punish the culprit police officers.
